Brahmagiri literally stands for the hill (giri) of Lord Brahma. According to Hindu mythology, Lord Shiva was impressed by Brahma when he meditated on these hills and names them after him. The Brahmagiri mountain contains of five different peaks called Sadyo-Jata, Aghora, Vamdev, Ishana, and Tat-Purusha. These peaks are considered to be the five mouths of Lord Shiva and are worshipped by devotees.
The water on Brahmagiri mountain flows in three directions – one flowing towards the east to become Godavari river, one flowing towards the south to become Vaitarna river, and the last one flowing towards the west called the west-flowing Ganga. Owing to the serenity of the place, many sages have believed to have done penance on these hills.
You will be trekking up to the Brahmagiri hill by climbing up the stone steps built during the 20th century.
Bhandar Durg forms the northern-most part of the Brahmagiri hills and has a rich history behind its formation. It was here that Trimbak Suryaji Prabhu has established the Peshwa regime in 1752. In 1818, the region under the British Empire led by Mc Dowell.
The trek includes a visit to the Trimbakeshwar temple. It is a temple of Lord Shiva in the town of Trimbak situated 28 km from Nashik and 40 km from Nashik road. It is one of the twelve prestigious Jyotirlings considered in high regard by the devotees of Lord Shiva. Trimbak is also located near the origin of the Godavari river, adding to its aesthetic appeal.
The trek will take you through a memorable trip through Brahmagiri hills, Bhandar Durg, and Trimbakeshwar in the form of a refreshing nature walk. As the trek is not too difficult, the route can be accessed by beginners as well as seasoned trekkers. - Do not litter the local sites or campsites. Consumption of Alcohol/Drugs /Smoking / Any other intoxicant during the trek is strictly prohibited. Any kind of Misbehaving activity with participants or local aspects is also offensive.
- Do not wear tight-fitted clothes as they might hinder with your movement during the trek.
