If you are willing to feel like you’re on the “top of the world” (quite literally!), you should definitely go for the Kalsubai peak trek. The trek to the highest mountain peak in Maharashtra is full of thrills, adventures, and memorable moments amidst nature’s best.

Kalsubai peak trek is one of the most popular treks preferred by travellers from across the state and the country. With an altitude of 5,400 ft above sea level, Kalsubai is the highest peak in the state, therefore earning the title of the “Mount Everest of Maharashtra”. The trek offers moderate terrain, making it suitable for travellers with little to no prior trekking experience.

Kalsubai peak trek is full of beautiful offerings of nature, including lush green forests, waterfalls, ancient forts, and aesthetic grasslands. The peak of the mountain bears the famous Kalsubai temple that attracts devotees throughout the year. The place bears a mythological significance. It is believed that a young village girl names Kalsubai lived in the mountains. She devoted her time in curing villagers, animals, and helping the locals in carrying out village activities. One day, Kalsubai left the village for the summit and never returned, resulting in the villagers building a temple in her memory.

Once you reach the top of the highest mountain peak in the state, you get a beautiful view of a range of forts, including Alang, Madan, Kulang, Harihargad, Ratangad, Harishchandragad, and many more. The height of the peak provides you with an unobstructed view of forts, reservoirs, and surrounding peaks. If you opt for the popular Kalsubai night trek, you can witness the magical sunrise at dawn.

If you keep your base as the Bari village, your trip would start by walking through smooth and cultivated farmlands. This often makes for a relaxing nature walk, making you forget all stress about the hustling of city life.

Once you reach closer to the peak, you get to climb narrow iron ladders on vertical rock faces to go up. If you are someone who enjoys the adrenaline rush provided by thrilling climbs, you would certainly love this section of the trek. However, this patch may get a little tricky to pass through during the monsoon.

In spite of the obvious challenges thrown in by the weather, trekkers often prefer going for the Kalsubai peak trek during the monsoons. The rains make the terrain look even more beautiful and cover the mountain with a dense and dark green hue. For both night and day trips, travellers often prefer monsoon treks to climb up the Kalsubai peak and enjoy what nature has to offer.

So, if you are looking for an ideal weekend getaway with the right amount of thrill, the Kalsubai peak trek is the trip to go for!
