If you are looking for a thrilling trek and a beautiful camping experience, the Sandhan valley camping allows you to visit the second-largest valley in Asia. Ideal for adventure enthusiasts and seasoned trekkers, the trek is bound to get your heart racing and reward you with beautiful memories after the trip.

Sandhan valley is also known as the “valley of shadows” formed by the canyons of the western ghats in the Sahyadri region of Maharashtra. The stretch of the valley measures 1.5 km with a depth of 200 ft amidst the rocky terrains of the Sahyadri region. With the Samrad village as the base for the trek, Sandhan valley is located not too far away from the Bhandardara dam. If you are willing to go to Sandhan valley from Mumbai, the Samrad village is just 147 km away from the city.

What makes the valley special is the fact that it is a water-carved valley. There are certain specific sections in the valley that never experience any sunlight throughout the day. Also, at some sections of the valley, the trails are less than 3 feet. This is what lends Sandhan valley the title of being the “valley of shadows.”

The valley is surrounded by the Alang, Madan, and Kulang forts. It also has the Ratangad fort and Kalsubai peak (the highest peak in Maharashtra) nearby. The Sandhan valley camping and trek make for one of the most challenging trekking routes in the state and requires a good amount of precision while making the journey. However, the trip is bound to provide you with just the right amount of thrill and adrenaline rush that you would remember long after the trip ends.

Another highlight of this trek is its campsite. You would be required to rappel down a patch of 45 feet and descend the other patch with the help of ropes to reach the campsite. This is why the trek is more suitable for seasoned trekkers and travellers with prior mountaineering experience. Once you are done climbing down the second patch, you will land on flat terrain for camping. Although the descent to the campsite is pretty challenging, the site would reward you with a breathtaking view of the valley and the scenery around it.

Travellers often prefer going for this trek during the monsoon season as the rains make the lush green landscape even more beautiful. The joy of witnessing the mesmerizing reverse waterfall in the valley can only be achieved during the monsoons.

If you are looking for a perfect getaway for a long weekend to go away from the hustling of the city, the Sandhan valley camping trek is an ideal option. The trip will make you experience the thrill of rappelling and allow you to replenish your energy by being amidst the best of what nature has to provide.
