Information

  • Trip Name: Bhairavgad Moroshi Trek
  • Location: Moroshi
  • Difficulty: Hard
  • Total Distance: 10 km
  • Time: 7 to 8 hours

If you are looking for a highly adventurous trek that keeps your heart thumping against your chest until you reach the final destination, the Bhairavgad Moroshi trek is tailor-made for you! Not for the faint-hearted, the thrilling trek from Moroshi to Bhairavgad will stretch your limits and make you experience the best of the Sahyadri mountains in a single trip.

The grand Bhairavgad Fort is situated near Malshej Ghat on the western Sahyadri range of Maharashtra. A trip to this location will make you challenge your trekking limits and leave you with a wholesome trekking experience. It is advisable for experienced trekkers to get on board as the trip might get really challenging for beginners.

The Bhairavgad trek would make you climb up rock-cut stairs that are narrow and uneven. At a significantly high altitude, you would require to have a firm footing on the ground to maintain your balance and sense of direction. While you would have the enormous Sahyadri hills on one side, a narrow valley would be on the other. With the majority of the climb being perpendicular to the ground, you will need to rappel your way up to the destination very carefully and precisely.

This is why the trek is advisable only for seasoned trekkers with some experience in rock climbing.

However, do not feel scared yet! Once you reach the base destination of Bhairavgad from Moroshi, all the toil and trouble would feel worthwhile. It is the thrill of the journey and the sense of accomplishment once you reach the destination that makes the Bhairavgad trek worth experiencing. Moreover, the view you get from the top of the hill is to die for!

The Bhairavgad Fort is a work of art. Situated at an elevation of 3,756 ft above sea level in the Malshej Ghat region, the fort is considered to be 2,500 years old. Although it is in a highly dilapidated state today, the ruins add to the overall ambiance of the trek. On the way to the destination, you will encounter two caves – one being the shrine of Lord Bhairavnath and the other one commonly used by trekkers for taking shelter.

It is important to note that the Bhairavgad Moroshi trek is not all rocks and hills. The route passes through a thin jungle and a plateau from where you can see the green trees and the famous Bhairavnath temple. You will also encounter a number of beautiful flowering plants like Karvi, making the otherwise challenging trek aesthetic.

Depending on your feasibility and location, you can go for the Bhairavgad trek from Mumbai, Pune, or any major locations near the base. Check out our itinerary for more details about the trek.
