What can be better than visiting a mighty waterfall situated in the lap of nature and soaking in the fresh moist air! If you are looking for a fairly easy trek that allows you to relax and rejuvenate yourself, the Devkund Waterfall trek is made just for you!
Devkund Waterfall is a fairly secluded waterfall situated deep inside a lush green forest surrounding the Bhira dam. Bhira houses a hydroelectric power generation unit by Tata. The waterfall remained pretty unnoticed until it was discovered and visited by tourists from all over the state of Maharashtra recently. The Devkund Waterfall trek allows you to witness a massive waterfall with the water falling from a height of over 80 ft into a pond that is approximately 30 metres in diameter.
It is believed that the Devkund is where the river Kundalika originates from. According to a common belief amongst the locals, there was a time when utensils used to emerge mysteriously from the pond in the region whenever there was an auspicious ceremony in the village.
The easy-to-tread trail would begin at the base location in Bhira. If you are visiting the forest for the first time and are traveling alone, you do not need to worry about losing direction. You will find direction boards at regular intervals to guide you effectively through the forest until you reach your destination. As the terrain is not challenging to walk on, you can spend your time enjoying the scenery around you and spending quality time with yourself.
The trek would initially take you to the Bhira dam reservoir, which is an ideal place to camp and spend the night. This is essential because camping is not allowed near the waterfall. The backdrop of the dam makes for a picture-perfect location to spend the night in the lap of mother nature.
As you go beyond the dam further into the forest, you would pass through two dried-up streams with a terrain that is a mix of meadows and a little overgrowth. Walking on this terrain is highly relaxing and enriching. As you go a little further, you will have to face a little climb that is not too steep. However, it would take quite a bit of your energy by the time you are done with the climb.
After the climb that would take you through a dense forest, you would end up on a rocky terrain that would finally lead you to the majestic waterfall. You can go inside the pond and swim in the water up to a specific limit. Once you are inside the pond with water gushing not so far away from you, you are bound to forget all your stress and enjoy the moment!
